Mounting Your Stratux

Where to put it

  • Logo side toward the sky. The GPS needs a clear view of the sky.
  • Antennas vertical, pointing up, and not wrapped around each other.
  • Keep the side vents clear and avoid direct sun on the case in a hot cockpit.
  • Glareshield, side window or rear window all work. A metal roof or heated windshield can block GPS; the External GPS model solves that.
  • If you use AHRS, mount it firmly and set the orientation. See AHRS on Stratux (video).

Suction mount and strap

Clean the glass and the suction cup before mounting, and press firmly. The rubberized strap holds the battery to the case: strap installation video.

Cold weather: suction cups lose grip when they’re cold. Warm the cups and the glass before mounting, and recheck them before flight. Replacement suction cups are available.

RAM mounts

Many pilots attach the suction-mount cradle to a RAM diamond base using #10 flathead screws (flathead so the case sits flush), then use any standard RAM arm. Check that the holes line up with your base before drilling anything.

Velcro

For a no-modification option, industrial hook-and-loop on the case and the glareshield works well, as long as the unit can’t shift (which matters for AHRS).
